Auction for one of Andy Warhol Sticky Fingers: The Rolling Stones. It's signed and is expected to fetch $2,500 - $3,500. That's not an outrageous price and I'd really like, uh, to have it. Anybody?

Seller's Description:
Most outrageous of all the Rolling Stones albums, signed by Warhol with his infamous photograph of a crotch shot and a real metal zipper. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. At first, several department store chains refused to display the album because of the model's rather snug jeans. "If you stand back from that cover," says album designer Craig Braun, "you can actually see the guy's dick. I used to kid Andy: 'I know you had that guy playing with his dick before you shot the picture!'"

Damn, I have this someplace at my family's home. Currently the only Stones album I can locate there is High Tide and Green Grass (with Brian Jones standing in front of the line of the guys).

Director David Cronenberg explains the debt he owes to Andy Warhol's bizarre and chillingly prophetic work

Empire is the classic. It was outrageous - yet somehow it worked. An eight-hour shot of the Empire State Building, it was high concept, not in the Hollywood sense, but the art sense. It's got potency, resonance. Andy even said the Empire State Building was a star. It's so New York, which was the centre of the artistic universe at the time, the 1960s. That's why I decided to begin the Andy Warhol show I am curating with Empire.

Stew Albert 1939 - 2006

Stew Albert a prominent anti-Vietnam war activist, an early supporter of the Black Panthers and a founder of the Yippie radical protest group, died Monday at age 66 in Portland, Oregon.

Initially diagnosed with Hepatitis C, he spent a whole year enduring grueling chemotherapy. He spoke openly about it on his website, documenting each day and each weekly shot. He was finally declared free of the disease only to be diagnosed with liver cancer this past December. The ultimate Fuck You. (My sister passed away this past Thanksgiving also from liver cancer from Hep C.) We spoke thru email about Hep C, how it sucked and how the treatment felt worse than the disease. I was always inspired by his spirit. From 1968 in Chicago throughout his life. People with true 60s ideals are a rare breed. Tom Robbins said, Disbelief in magic can force a poor soul into believing in government and business. Stew certainly believed in magic.

"Stew will be buried tomorrow (Wednesday) in Jones Pioneer Cemetery in Portland. He will be wrapped in a tallis (Jewish prayer shaw), holding a stuffed flower from the Haight and wearing his kick-ass Frye boots and our wedding ring."

More On Hepatitis C
Allen Ginsberg died from complications of it. Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, and David Crosby of Crosby, Stills, & Nash, both had liver transplants and still suffer from it. Ken Kesey, author of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, suffered from it and died of liver cancer in 2001. Penny Arcade, the 55-year-old performance artist for the East Village avant-garde art scene since Andy Warhol roamed the city, also suffers from it.

Miles Keaton Andrew, a 52-year-old author who contracted it when he experimented with intravenous drugs as a teenager, has kept a blog, www.mkandrew.com, since 2001 about his experiences battling H.C.V. His blog has received a million hits in the past year. “I understand the whole stigma thing,” he told The Villager. "There are a lot of people like me who might have experimented with drugs. Some of us got sick from it and it isn’t anything to be ashamed about."

It's a very compelling and raw interview and I'm anxious to see if this movie follows his vision.

...that Andy Warhol created his version of A Clockwork Orange...SIX YEARS BEFORE it was even released? He called his movie, Vinyl; both are taken from Anthony Burgess' novel.

"Dylan's Visions of Sin", new book by Christopher Ricks, the great British literary critic and newly elected Oxford Professor of Poetry, is reviewed in Sunday's NYT. Looks to be pretty academic, cerebral. Link

World Naked Bike Ride in Asheville was a big success with approximately 60 riders participating. A beautiful hot June day saw people lining the streets with cameras at the ready and the police gave the riders an univited escort in their cars and on their bikes. With the exception of two topless ladies, some clothes stayed on in the beginning, and halfway thru began peeling off. More riders joined the procession at different junctions and by the end of the ride, many were freely riding in the breeze with strategically placed foilage or body paint. Here are just a few Asheville pics; still for hoping more to show up.

I've used computers since the eighties [big-ass IBM's] and I've been on the internet since 1996 and have had many different ISP's. And as my family became more interested in the internet, I reluctantly switched to AOL in 1999. AOL could successfully run a promo announcing "My First Internet" featuring little Susie slapping the keyboard in her bassinet. Still every time my husband, [one of the most intelligent people I know] checks his email, I'm beckoned several times to bail him out of a jam.

Dickhead Award
Is there a bigger dickhead on tv than Fox News' Bill ["whiter than the first lifeboat off the Titanic" ] O'Reilly? This egomaniac's latest bogus claim on his 'No Spin Zone' O'Reilly Factor Show, is that since George Clooney dissed him on Letterman one night, it caused his movie, Oceans Eleven, to flop. People weren't exactly blazing a path to the theaters, but O'Reilly's fans boycotting the movie didn't cause it to flop. So I'm giving my "Dickhead Award" to you, Bill. It's usually reserved for a particular offense, but your collective offenses earn you this honor and your Warhol wristwatch is sitting on 14:59. And Bill, let me have the last word: Take your leave, fade out, and one day when you're 80, alone in a caftan with a lap full of catnip saying, 'Here kitty, kitty, kitty', I'll be watching and saying, "Spin This".
