India's Daughter - BBC documentary Delhi Nirbhaya full HD - Video Dailymotion

It's been a long, long time since I've seen something so powerful and moving.

This is the documentary that has been unethically banned in India. It sheds a new light on the complex socioeconomic and cultural state of India that determines the status of India's women in their society. On one hand, there is an increased awareness and a new zeal to fight horrible crimes on women and on the other hand, people with twisted and misguided ideas still cause harm to women in India.

LITTLE BOXES | (no vaginas were harmed in the writing of this rant)

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Driving back from errands I notice how the neighborhoods all resemble that song, Little Boxes, from Showtime's WEEDS. But I've thought that way for decades now. WEEDS was a tv show that ran about 9 seasons in the US; now on Netflix about a family that sold weed for a living. (Click for Lyrics)

That song keeps playing over in my head as I see professional consumers marching out to add more to their professional spending habit and, I gotta go longhand, what the fuck is it with all the white cars now?

Everyone without the ability to have an original thought, or to refrain from going into massive debt-- please board that lemming train if you can still find a seat. You won't see Nancy Botwin (WEEDS) on that train.

We will tell you when to show up, what to wear, what to eat, what to buy, how to act. As long as we are extracting money from you, it's good for the cuntry.

FFS, do YOU! You don't have to sell weed for a living but be yourself. You will still be normal, you will still fit in, you will still be loved when you learn to free yourself from debt and your perpetual buying habits and just be original. Resist the urge to follow the masses. You look weak and I shake my head inside when I see you.

I was in my early 30s and it made such a difference in my life to realize that I could finally stop working two full time jobs that I always worked so I could buy more stuff so I was a slave to my jobs just for stuff I wanted-- wanted, not needed. I spent so much time just trying to acquire shit.  One job only paid for a cocaine habit basically. What a stupid merry-go-round.

I learned how to enjoy life with what I needed, not always what I wanted. I had to.  Can we say, everything came to a screeching halt and just leave it at that?  And the way it frees you up inside is blissful; you just can't imagine.  Don't you want to get off that crazy ride?  It's challenging when you're were raised up being spoiled rotten. Lots of you know exactly what I mean.  Getting your first car at 15, freely using all Daddy's credit cards at 13 or just telling the any clerk to send Daddy the bill anytime I wanted to.Ch-ching!  What an absolute asshole I must have been.

The lady that wrote Little Boxes, Malvina Reynolds? She recorded it in 1961. She earned her BA and her MA in English from Berkeley, and later earned a doctorate there, finishing her dissertation in 1938. I think she passed away in 1972 or so.

I admire you and I salute you, Malvina Reynolds for all your songwriting and your music.

Melancholia

Saturday, April 23, 2011

"Life is only on Earth... and not for long." Another mesmerizing new trailer to watch. Out of nowhere, Zentropa has debuted the official trailer (website / Vimeo) for Danish director Lars von Trier's new film Melancholia. This is sort of a sci-fi drama about another planet that's going to collide with the Earth, but it's really about a wedding and the people there. Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Kiefer Sutherland star with Alexander Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier. This is beautiful, but as always with von Trier, very, very weird, but that's why it's so intriguing. Enjoy.

Melancholia is both written & directed by controversial/brilliant Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier, of films like Medea, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, The Boss of It All and Antichrist most recently. Magnolia Pictures will be distributing Melancholia in the US later this year, but it doesn't have a release date yet, as we're expecting the film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this summer. Visit the official website.

Cannot wait!

D O P E

D O P E

DOPE, is a 1968 documentary of the London drug scene. Featuring Donovan and Australian artist/dancer Vali Myers, the spectre of underground folk legend Geno Foreman, Marianne Faithfull talking about poppers, Syd's (Pink) Floyd in full UFO freakout mode, The Fool and mainlining in Richmond Hill, Dope is the definitive document of counter-cultural life in the capital during 1967.

Mere words cannot adequately describe this visual montage documenting the bohemian London drug culture of the late sixties...as they shoot up, eat, talk. In the spirit of the era’s avant garde film movement and evoking the subversive work of Andy Warhol, Jack Smith, Stan Brackage, and even Dennis Hopper’s Easy Rider, Dope never spares its audience a break . . . Dope is more underground than the underground. It’s sub-underground.

"Light and atmospheric, this is a heady drama perfumed with scenes of heroin and hashish."--Ira Cohen

Film by Flame Schon, aka Diane Rochlin (in collaboration with the late Sheldon Rochlin). link

WEHT Glen Schwartz from the James Gang?

Saturday, November 8, 2008

David Byrne has this clip on his website of Glenn Schwartz playing at Hooples in Cleveland, Ohio.

From the website:

"Glenn started the James Gang in the 60s, then moved to California and was in the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. He flipped out soon afterward and was in religious communities. He's had a rough life and is tortured and crazy. Now Glenn is 67 years old and plays in a blues trio for free late every Thursday at a small bar called Major Hooples. There are typically 20-30 people there and he is jaw-droppingly amazing to see. His playing is like electric bolts straight from his psyche. He jumps off his amp and plays guitar with his teeth. And he often preaches fire and brimstone between songs. It's something very special and you won't see anything like it except on Thursdays in Cleveland.”

Anybody remember the "Jesus Freak" era that sprang out of the Sixties? One trip too many sent some people to Jesus and some people swung from yin (drugs) to yang (Jesus) just trying to find out who they were and some just flat out went to Jesus and kept on tripping. Whatever gets you through the night, I always say.

ABOUT EBC

It wasn't long after 9/11, September 11, 2001, that I began this website. I felt compelled to connect with other people around the globe. I had recently heard about "weblogs" or "blogs" and I dove right into Blogger.com. I searched for others to connect with online and I found Ageless. It led to meeting many great friends to discuss events of the day. From then on it snowballed. Most importantly we offered one another support and friendship across the globe; finding that we were just a few keystrokes away.
