Salvia Divinorum

Typical knee-jerk reaction to outlaw nature with guvmint all up in our bidnezz. Again.

Brett Chidester, a 17-year-old Delaware high school senior, committed suicide this past January. His parents knew he had experimented with salvia and asked him to stop. He said it was legal, but he would discontinue using it. But his parents now believe his depression was worsened by the salvia, and they believe it contributed to his death. I feel their pain, but are we rushing to judge here?

Advocates for salvia use say it should be regulated, not criminalized. They say it should only be used by adults, and when responsibly smoked or chewed, it can be used as a meditative tool. Link

It's had a good run under the radar for years, buT until you see a lobbyist tauting Sallie D like they do with the alcohol, pharmaceutical and tobacco industry, it'll be outlawed. State by state. There's no reasonable way they can tax it and make money from this natural substance.

yeah, know what you mean... i think it'll happen quickly in the UK too... i mean if they worry about mushrooms then I guess once they hear about Salvia's effect the alarm bells will start ringing... fear creeps all over the show, especially the fear of going insane... must be worse for the kind of politicians who feel they are on the brink and need alcohol etc to stave off the madness...

I remember hearing about this drug/plant/whatever it is. Not sure of my thoughts on it completely yet. I can see them making this illegal within the next couple of years though.
Nice post, but you always have very thought provoking posts.

The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror VIII

It wasn't long after 9/11, September 11, 2001, that I began this website. I felt compelled to connect with other people around the globe. I had recently heard about "weblogs" or "blogs" and I dove right into I searched for others to connect with online and I found Ageless. It led to meeting many great friends to discuss events of the day. From then on it snowballed. Most importantly we offered one another support and friendship across the globe; finding that we were just a few keystrokes away.
