If you're just quoting your parents, you really didn't know Ronald Reagan. If you've only read the headlines, or only watched the US media accounts, you really didn't know Ronald Reagan. As with everything, make sure your news is balanced. Collect it from the four corners. Sift through it well. Read between the lines and decide who has an agenda. Expect no glowing eulogy here.

People's Park in Berkeley. (when we were still in Venice) And
