Got Them pResident Dubya Blues Again
"Nukular." "Internets." "Wanna buy some wood?"

When Dubya was elected Governor of Texas, I was flabbergasted. I couldn't believe that sane people would vote for this Bush family idiot. I was later shocked when he was appointed pResident. Now fast forward 4 years later and after witnessing the Bozo clusterfuck that is Dubya & Company, we're on the cusp of four more disastrous years.

In my mind's eye, I see him sitting in the Oval Office reading Karl Rove's "Prezidentin' For Dummies". What I hope to see is him waving goodbye as the moving vans pull away with his shit onboard. I almost don't care who moves in after him.

But it may not happen that way. Can we really take this administration for four more years? I sure hope like hell we'll never have to find out.

Tideland, the movie, has begun filming and is directed by Terry Gilliam. (Monty Python member, and he directed 12 Monkeys, and Fisher King, --2 of my all time favorites). It's taken from the macabre gothic novel by Mitch Cullin about an abandoned young girl’s life and fantasies in rural Texas. Currently filming in Regina, Saskatchewan, it teams Gilliam again with Jeff Bridges and is scheduled for a 2006 release. On my "Must See" list along with Johnny Depp's The Diving Bell & The Butterfly, scheduled for 2005.

Asheville protesters rallied outside Sinclair-owned WLOS studios for the 6:00 newscast last night and there's also a vigil planned for this Friday, Oct 22, at WLOS during the airing time of the Kerry slam. Local protest guru has a Sinclair Watch site and forum, was interviewed by Amy Goodman on Democracy Now last week, and is working to keep Sinclair accountable. A monumental task, indeed. Asheville always comes through loud and clear for great causes.

George W Bush looks like he just dropped his fucking ice cream cone. That sad, slack-jawed look just causes me all kinds of grief. It appears every time someone disagrees with him. He's evidently someone who's never been disagreed with.

Put your clothes on, Emperor. We all know the score.

Bush claims he never said he didn't think much about Osama bin Laden. Sorry, Mr. President, in a press conference on March 13, 2002, you said (and I quote):

"I don't know where he [bin Laden] is.You know, I just don't spend that much time on him... I truly am not that concerned about him."

Bush tried to say Kerry's claim "is one of those exaggerations." That was his attack on Gore, not Kerry. Has he hit the wrong button on his playback machine?

This performance should forever dispel the myth that someone is feeding Mr. Bush lines through a secret earpiece. Believe me, if someone was feeding Bush lines, he wouldn't sound so goofy. Link

Bless His Heart

{Bless His Heart}

In the South, we have this phrase that has several different meanings. It doesn't take others long to catch on.

I first heard it from my Father. He was referring to a divorcee down the street who had taken to too many cocktails for breakfast. And for lunch and dinner. "Bless her heart. After Curtis left her, she's not been able to cope." Fine. It's a term of endearment.

I later discovered Bless her heart took on different connotations. It was mean-spirited when said about the ugly girl who tryed out for homecoming queen. "Bless her heart. She thinks she's got a chance." Are you really being warm and sincere? Or is it more like you want to give a shit, but don't have it in you to do so?

It can be endearing as in, "Bless his heart, he's trying so hard to ride that bicycle".

It can dress up the snarkiest remark, express sincerest regrets, or upmost respect. But it can also be confusing to outsiders until you learn to recognize it's use as both compliment and criticism.

Like this degree of audacity when Bless his heart can be interchangeable with things like, Poor Bastard, or What An Asshole. As in "Bless his heart, (Poor Bastard,) Dick Cheney actually thinks we believe all those lies he's been telling us."
